Give your playing fields the KISSS of life

KISSS is a unique sub-surface irrigation system that provides a simple, water efficient solution to keep your school’s oval or playing fields lush and green, even in the worst dry season. KISSS uses up to 60% less water than traditional watering systems and its innovative design makes it safer to use recycled, untreated rainwater or even waste water.

Since its debut on the ABC program The Inventors 15 years ago, KISSS has been used successfully by schools, sporting grounds and local councils all around Australia to preserve water and create top quality playing surfaces. Even through drought and in Australia’s harshest conditions, KISSS will prevent your playing field from becoming a dust bowl, because its patented design uses geo-textile layers to target the grass roots and deliver water uniformly, encouraging the grass roots to bed more deeply and become more drought resistant.

KISSS is safe for students and environmentally friendly

The patented KISSS design cleverly prevents water from tunnelling to the surface. So playing fields no longer become dangerously slippery, or suffer from muddy patches. There’s no excess water run-off to worry about and evaporation is considerably reduced. No water is wasted – KISSS only delivers water where it’s needed and even helps to prevent evaporation. The design also makes it safe to use untreated rainwater or even grey water, because your students will never be exposed to any excess water on the surface.

When used with drought resistant grass such as Kikuyu (included in the price), KISSS offers a near permanent solution and requires only simple maintenance that can be easily performed by your current school groundsman.

Get a KISSS during the next school holidays

Installation of KISSS is fast and simple. On the average school playing field, it can be easily installed and set up in two weeks or less. This includes everything from levelling your field, inserting the subsurface irrigation system, laying your drought resistant turf and connecting the system to the water supply. Storm Sustainability will even help you install a water tank and pump system so you can use storm water.

Why use artificial grass when you can get a KISSS instead?

Replacing grass playing fields with artificial grass is a drastic option. But many Australian schools are considering giving up the struggle to maintain grass surfaces in the face of the ongoing drought. It’s an option that is not only a tragedy for our kids, but one that carries significant risks.
  • Artificial grass is not very suitable for outdoor use in Australian conditions. It can become hot to touch in the sun and frequently requires watering to prevent burn injuries.
  • An increased incidence of serious injury, grazes and ‘turf burns’ is common.
  • Artificial grass retains more harmful bacteria than real grass. It increases the risk of infections and must be cleaned regularly and properly.
  • Toxicity risks are high with artificial turf. It is manufactured from plastics and rubber, which together contain as many as 49 hazardous chemicals... including the human carcinogen chrysene.
  • USA studies have shown that 25 dangerous chemicals and four metals including Zinc, Selenium, Lead and Cadmium are released when rubber products come in contact with rain water. Artificial turf can increase the risk of children coming in contact with these chemicals in the normal course of play and the harmful effects of metals like Lead, is cumulative.
